The last flight of Discovery from Ray Woods on Vimeo.
On Feb 21st I left Charlotte to see the shuttle Discovery launch for the last time on the 24th. I too back roads south to Savannah, then drifted around looking for a place to camp, failing that I spent a couple awful days in Daytona Beach, before heading the the cape at 5 am to see the shuttle launch at 4:50 pm. It was a long day I didn’t get back till nearly midnight. After that is was to the Ocala National Forest in central Florida for a few days break. the i headed east, the paln was to hit New Orleans for Mardi Gras, but lodging plan fell though. so i spent a night in Apalachicola, Fl for my Birthday. With no plan and running out of ideas i headed into the Aplachicola National Forest and ended up camping there for 6 days. Done with that with nowhere left to roam I snaked my way up the Alabama/Georgia boarder before heading across Atlanta and into Charlotte. This is the film of that entire trip. 7149 photos, 2100 miles, 16 days, 5 states, 2 National forests, 1 last shuttle launch. running time 7:10 (shuttle launch is at 1:50), music by Laurie Anderson, “bodies in motion” off her “Homeland” Album.
enjoy.
